This should allow you to perform fireball skips much easier. For controller, it's recommended to change your Quick Cast button on the controller to Y or Triangle, and moving Dream Nail to a shoulder button. Regardless of which you choose, remap your controls before learning the category. Keyboard has more comfortable mashing, but controller has a trick to make fireball skips easier. Consider dropping your resolution if you are suffering from a large amount of dropped inputs, micro-stutters, etc and see if it boosts your FPS and performance.įor Hollow Knight, both controller and keyboard are perfectly viable. If you experience bad tearing with Vsync off, try enabling Vsync using external software, for example with Nvidia's Control Panel. In the options menu, turn particle effects to low, and turn off Vsync as well, as it causes massive input lag and among other issues. If you want to run the game, even just to complete a single run, you'll want to maximize your FPS as much as possible. This game runs like absolute crap at low FPS. #HOLLOW KNIGHT CRYSTAL DASH STICKS INSTALL#
Follow the instructions in the readme to install the Modding API, then extract the Debug Menu Mod.
#HOLLOW KNIGHT CRYSTAL DASH STICKS MODS#
Once finished and you have a functioning folder of the game on 1.2.2.1, copy and paste the entire folder, then install the following mods into one of those folders: (1) Modding API (2) Debug Menu Mod. If you are using Steam, please follow this short guide to create separate installations of the game.

#HOLLOW KNIGHT CRYSTAL DASH STICKS MOD#
Practice for this category should always be done with a separate installation of the game using the Debug Menu Mod with savestates. To downpatch with Steam, use this guide made by Verulean. It is the fastest primarily because of the Lever Skip, which allows us to skip a portion of the spire before Watcher Knights.

#HOLLOW KNIGHT CRYSTAL DASH STICKS PATCH#
And as far as I know, no other area needs these items. The recommended patch to run is Patch 1.2.2.1. Therefore you need Dreamgate, Wings, Shade Cloak, and Sharp Shadow, Mantis Claw, and Vengeful Spirit to get up there and then Dreamgate out, therefore saving the need to get Crystal Dash or Isma's Tear to get to Monomon. Maybe you folks can hunt for that video (I believe it was one of Fireb0rn's highlight clips, though I can't find it). This skip would be easier with Sharp Shadow, but dubious though it sounds, its doable. The Ooma hits them and they get blown forward and dash again, clawing onto the wall.

The player attracts the attention of an Ooma, who they hit and immediately dash and wing across the gap. I could not find this video later even though I searched high and low for it, but I know what my eyes saw. Originally I thought this was the end of it, and that's why I didn't think much of it. In order to get to Uumuu alone you need Isma's or CDash to get across a long stretch of acid, which, unfortunately, cannot be traversed by this method. I doubt this'll have any speedrunning implications, but here's the video. You also need Dreamgate to avoid the softlock at Quirrel (for those who don't know, after you dreamnail Monomon you get a hard save at her.) Oh, and you have to pull off the Shade Skip for Monarch Wings, which is tedious and painful. This requires Shade Cloak, since you need Sharp Shadow which lengthens your dash ever so slightly that it becomes manageable. After Mag discovered the skip that allowed the game to be beaten without CDash with the incredibly difficult skip to Isma's, I was browsing Youtube and found a video, which I'll link later: where the person manages to make it to Monomon without CDash or Isma's.
